Shaft, as described in the movie's theme song, is "the Black Private Dick (short for Detective) who's a sex machine to all the chicks." John Shaft operates his own private detective agency in New York City in the 1970s. He's sharply dressed (for the era), quick-witted, and not unsympathetic to some of the hard cases he encounters in the course of his work.

Richard Roundtree, a Black American Man, played the role representing a recent Black Action Hero.

A Shaft can be any positive Black Man living life with a purpose- the purpose, whatever it maybe is almost unstoppable.  And a Shaft is a man who just so happen to be a Black man in America that women of all races find super-respectful, super adorable, and super-beautiful. 

There is no such thing as... in 1970’s; women will not get romantically involved with a Black American man.  In 2016, where there are few Shafts, women of all races view the Black man the same. Women love them some Black man!

Standing up for him when needed, in fashion, Shaft is always open-minded.

Shaft must often carefully walk the line between whites, blacks, and a grey area in between represented by those of both races who operate outside the mainstream.

In other words, Shaft is proof that there are differences in Black Peoples... Black Americans, African Americans, Africans born in America yet having parents who were born in Africa, and other Black Peoples such as Latin Americans, South America (Columbia), Southeast Asia, East Asia (Chinese), Mexico, Caribbean, India, Middle East, and the U.S. (Native Americans) are all peoples of different tribes, genealogies.

Black people many times challenge Black people even to the point of an escalating a possible race war.

In the movie Shaft, there is a strong warning that the Black race and the Italian race may end in a race war. However, Shaft belongs to the American Black race, as his race of people have nothing to do with a race war between other Black peoples and Italians peoples.

With it being no secret that the Italian peoples are also included within the race of Black Peoples, it is Shaft, the Black American, who saves the day by actually preventing a race war between Black Peoples (African Americans vs Black Peoples Italian Americans.

Black History Month helps to open the eyes of people of the world about who Blacks in America and beyond are.

Shaft wasn't a wealthy man. He was a businessman, a hard worker, true to his skills and career.

White Americans- those who didn't believe in being superior to Black Peoples- understanding Shaft were very proud to be friends and associates with him.
