Jackson Denies Cancer Rumors: 'Believe It When You Hear It From My Lips'
Janet Jackson denied rumors that she has throat cancer in a lengthy Twitter post on Wednesday, January 6.
"From my lips..." the superstar tweeted, alongside a video that included her song "The Great Forever” (from her new album,
Unbreakable) and a note about the false rumors.
Her
team first tweeted out a note on Wednesday about an upcoming
announcement. "It was Janet’s wish not to make any further comments
about her health, however, because of the great concern from around the
world, Janet will be releasing a personal message shortly," the note
read. Then the songstress shared her story.
"Remember…believe it when
you hear it from my lips," Jackson, 49, wrote in her message. "The
rumors are untrue. I do not have cancer. I'm recovering. My doctors have
approved my concerts as scheduled in Europe, and as I promised, the
postponed shows will be rescheduled. Thank you for your prayers and
love."
Rampant speculation about her health condition began last month after Jackson announced that she would be postponing several stops from her Unbreakable world
tour for surgery. "Hey you guys…Happy Holidays to each and every one of
you!" the Grammy-winning singer shared on December 24. "I need you to
know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon. It
breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the
Unbreakable Tour until the spring."
Extra reported on Wednesday that the tour will resume in late March.
According to the outlet, doctors have cleared the singer to tour in
Europe at that time.
While Jackson made no further
comment about what type of surgery she was undergoing, one outlet wrote
Tuesday about a vocal-cord "growth" that was possibly cancerous. Then,
other outlets slowly picked up the story, resulting in Jackson's denial.
Jackson's 11th and most recent studio album,
Unbreakable, was released last October. It was her first release since 2008’s
Discipline.
