Danish group Lukas Graham has opened-up a sizeable lead on the Official U.K. Singles Chart with their debut "7 Years" (Warner Bros). It's 5,000 combined sales ahead of Malik’s debut song at the halfway mark of the chart week, according to the Official U.K. Charts Company. After three weeks on the chart, "7 Years" climbs from No. 10 to the top spot, while last week’s No. 1 "Pillowtalk" slips to No. 2 on the Official Singles Chart Update Top 100.
The top 5 is completed by Jonas Blue’s "Fast Car" (No. 3 via Positiva), Shawn Mendes’ "Stitches" (No. 4 via EMI) and Rihanna’s "Work" featuring Drake (No. 5 via Roc Nation).
Coldplay’s seventh album A Head Full Of Dreams (Parlophone) became the British group’s first LP to miss out on the U.K. No. 1 (Adele’s 25 ensured the album didn’t fare better than No. 2). Thanks to the exposure from the four-piece’s headline performance at the Super Bowl extravaganza on the weekend, the album is on top in the race for the new No. 1.
Dreams is almost 8,000 combined sales ahead of its nearest rival, David Bowie's No. 2 ranked Best of Bowie (Rhino), to claim the highest position at the midway point. Elton John, meanwhile, is chasing a 31st top 10 album with Wonderful Crazy Night (Mercury), which is new No. 3. Adele’s 25 (XL) is at No. 4 and Justin Bieber’s Purpose (Def Jam) is at No. 5.
Notable new releases on the Official Albums Chart Update Top 100 include Foxes All I Need (Sign of the Times) at No. 9, The Cult’s Hidden City (Cooking Vinyl) at No. 13, and DJ Eric Prydz Opus at No. 16 (Virgin).
The U.K. singles and albums chart are published late Friday local time.
