Kendrick Lamar Debuts Multiple 'Untitled' Tracks on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
Kendrick Lamar Debuts Multiple 'Untitled' Tracks on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
The surprise arrival of
Kendrick Lamar’s
Untitled Unmastered project (released on March 4) causes three of the set’s tracks -- all with “Untitled” titles as well -- to debut on
Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The set bows at No. 1 on the
Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums
chart (dated March 26) with 142,000 copies sold in the week ending
March 10 (according to Nielsen Music), becoming his second chart-topper
in less than a year, following
To Pimp a Butterfly’s crowning entrance.
No official singles have been announced from
Untitled Unmastered. The three debuting tracks from the set on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs are powered by their sales and streaming.
Lamar takes the Hot Shot Debut on the
chart with “Untitled 02 | 06.23.2014” coming in at No. 23. It marks his
highest debut in a year, since “King Kunta” earned a No. 22 debut
(April 4, 2015 chart) propelled by the concurrent release of its parent
album, To Pimp a Butterfly.
Also
arriving on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs is “Untitled 07 | 2014-2016” at
No. 27, with the most individual downloads from the set (22,000).
Finally, “Untitled 03 | 05.28.2013” notches a No. 49 arrival.
Curious
as to the last “Untitled” song to chart on the list? Previous to Lamar,
the last artist to bring an “Untitled” track to the tally was D’Angelo in 2000 with “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” which peaked at No. 2.
2 Chainz Takes No. 2: 2 Chainz nets the No. 2 debut on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with ColleGrove, starting with 34,000 copies sold in its first week. The set becomes his first charting album since 2013 when B.O.A.T.S II #MeTime also arrived at No. 2 (with 63,000 copies, chart dated Sept 28).
Three of the new album’s songs come onto Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs led by “Gotta Lotta,” featuring Lil Wayne
(who is featured on a majority of the tracks on the project). It enters
at No. 33 with 2.3 million streams supporting its start (of which 43
percent stem from Spotify). “Bounce,” featuring Lil Wayne follows at No.
34, while “Smells Like Money,” featuring Lil Wayne ticks in at No. 45.
Lil
Wayne extends his own record for the most charted titles on Hot
R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, with 146. (That’s 24 more than the runner-up: Jay Z, with 128.)
Meanwhile, ColleGrove's “Watch Out” hops 30-28 on the chart in its 16th week. The song previously peaked at No. 19 on the Feb. 13 chart.
Bryson Tiller’s Second Top 10: R&B newcomer Bryson Tiller
jumps 15-9 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with “Exchange,” earning his
second career top 10. Meanwhile, his first top 10 hit, “Don’t,” remains
at No. 4 (its peak) in its 33rd charting week. The track reaches a new
streaming high, logging 8.7 million domestic weekly streams. YouTube and
Vevo on YouTube amass the most plays for the cut during the week, with
45 percent of total streams.
