Dance instructor Kashim Turpin assists a large group of talented students with a dance challenge during an after-school program at Madiba Prep Middle School. Madiba Prep Middle School is a New York City Department of Education school that serves students in grades 6-8. Students learn Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Environmental Studies…more making learning exciting and also fun.
Madiba Prep students enjoy a great opportunity to become scholarship students that will receive targeted assistance to accelerate their learning, engage in national and international travel, and benefit from extended day, afterschool homework help and enrichment activities such as robotics, chess, fencing, and swimming.
As for the afterschool activity at Madiba Prep, children are happy to participate with Kashim Turpin following his core teaching various technique dance styles. The students do their best in ballet and hip-hop movement becoming so good at dance that they have a much better chance to get into performing arts high school of their own choice.
Most recently, Madiba Prep afterschool students have given back to the community putting on “The Welcome Back to School Barbecue,” Kashim Turpin said.
Helping all of the students to feel that they have a voice students performed dance to music for the community. There were many family and friends at the dance performance.
Any parent searching for an excellent afterschool program at Madiba Prep Middle School will discover that the dance program is a real success story.
There are credible measures to demonstrate that success.
The daily ballet and hip-hop dance program, which encourages and motivates students to succeed, extends focus on several rigorous instruction core areas: academic enrichment, sports and recreation, life skills, cultural enrichment, parental involvement and community service is a plus.
Turpin, a Black American male dance instructor and trainer, extend their day to provide instruction and lead activities for over 20 students who are enrolled in the dance movement group.
A dance competition with other groups energizes the ballet and hip-hop movement classes.
The students training in dance at Madiba Prep made it to the second round competition called the DYCD Step It Up Competition.
The students are ready to showcase their talents in upcoming competitions and showcases.
And these kids stay out of trouble.
“They love our program. They want to be in class the next day, ready for class work at school,” said Kashim Turpin.
This is a great program and it needs to be expanded in New York.
